Wexford CBS Boxing Club

The Wexford CBS Boxing Club was started in January 1960, the result of a challenge between two rival classes in the CBS secondary school, Aidan O ‘ Sullivan’s class versus Br. L. Hale’s class.

When the club was initially founded one of the young boxers , Larry Kirwan wrote to Floyd Patterson, then heavy weight champion of the world, asking for some boxing equipment. Floyd sent on a set of 16 oz. gloves, head guards and mitts.

The club has produced many great boxers and a great deal of time and effort has been put into the club over the years by men like Christian Brothers, Mc Cabe, Cusack and Dormer, and also men like Aidan O Sullivan, Harry Keyes and Liam Walsh , who died tragically in a traffic accident. More recently coaches like Louis Furlong and the Late Eddy Bryne paid a big part in keeping the club going.

The club is now run by head coach Eddy Bolger, a very experienced boxer and coach who has been with the club for more than 30 years, winning national titles at all stages up to and including senior level.

The club would like to thank all its friends and local sponsors for the support given. The club’s main sponsor is Slaney Bookmakers.
